As I knew a bit, and now even more so from the last post (i.e. what would you do?) You are all a very creative lot of people.

Happy Holidays to all.

For those of you who sent cards my way thank you, and I didn't do cards this year.

and some rambling now:

A few years ago, my mom rescued a nice big marble morter and pestle from the rummage sale held at the elementary school I went to. It has been sitting in her kitchen as decoration this whole time.

That is until last Monday. You see, I was making cookies. Cinnomon snaps to be specific and in gathering the ingredients I realised that I was out of allspice. So as B needed a ride to the hobby shop we bundled up and went on a store run...

I refuse to buy my spices from Jewel or Dominicks. They are way too overpriced for a way to small amount. We usually either go to the Patel Brothers store on Demptser (A huge spice store in the heart of the Indian neighborhood there), or buy from the small Hispanic/polish fruit market near the house. They sell spices in bulk for a good price...
All we could find was one jar of whole allspice.

So, since we don't drink coffee and own neither a coffee grinder or a spice grinder it was off to borrow my mom's morter and pestle to grind up some spices.

I had forgotten how relaxing it it to use a morter and pestle. All my frustrations at Reuben being sick stuff in general went into my hands. I ended up grinding more than we needed for the cookies.

I'm also reminded that all spice has to be among my favorite smells.
