I'm still struggling to write what I had happen on Tuesday.
It was along the lines of I was using the computer. Talking to a freind whom I hadn't heard from since a little after he returned from Helping with the rescue efforts at the world trade centers. (He is a rescue worker out of LA) - That was November I talked to him last? I think. And anyways I hear a crack and swoosh sound from outside. I say I gotta go, log off (Yes I can now get online on my puter again).
Walk outside and see a tree on top of my car. Look over at the willow and see that a good third of the lovely old willow in front of the house I share with Evily is cracked from where that portion of the limb joined the main part of the trunk down to the ground. That image haunted me first. As I couldn't see the damage done to my car at that point.
I walked out in shock and started talking to the neigborsabout the tree, removal of the part blocking the street, that if the rest of the tree goes it's going to hit the house, I did get a chance to thank the woman who helped my mom when B fell out of the tree. The neigbor kids asked if I was related to Evily's children which made me smile as I was saying nope.
Got my camera out. And started taking photos of the damage. They will be up on the web in about two weeks as all I had was Kodak Tri X Pan film (Black and white film). I got a roll of film with the tree on the car, a half a roll of the tree being cut off my car, and the tree on the lawn, and a roll of film with just my car.
The upside is that I'm going to have some nice artsy crushed car photos. The downside besides being able to see the engine mounts through the hood of the car is that it's going to cost alot for development. I'm springing for the extra $4.95 to get them put on cd so I don't have to scan them at all.
My car is totaled. the main point of impact had been the drivers side of the car. Had I not been distracted by Mike and not been running behind as I wanted to talk to him, I would most likely be dead now.
I thank the heavens that I'm not. I like living.
Cat says I now have a sub-compact car.
Avi and Ben pointed out that my car has saved me from some very not good situations alot lately. Hopefully she will be reincarnated as a much stronger car in her next life.
Yesterday Cat dragged me to Saturn to look at Used Car's. It was a bit premature as I don't know what I can afford right now. What the insurance will cover what. There was a lovely little sw2 (the mini wagon they offer) that is 4 years old with 20,000 miles on it, in beautiful shape, and has alot of exrtra options that my car didn't have (like cruise control) for 11,000. Which would end up being a $260 monthly payment financed out.
Which isn't bad. But all I can think of right now is:
My poor car!
