Adventures in Amatuer Astronomy.
Gah!
I'm tiiiired.
Reuben and I and a friend of ours were trying to see the lenoids.
We decided to go up just north of Fort Sheridan, as there is little light right along the lakefront there, and there is a big preserve that we could get away with parking near, and walking through the woods to the lake.
So ALec drove, he took Sheridan North from the Northwest side of the city. I had forgotten how beautiful it is driving down Sheridan ave. through Evanston and Highland Park.
However, Reuben fell asleep, and I not having been back in the area was not quite sure where we were heading. Alec just kept driving. At 3 am, Reuben says okay try to find a place to pull over so we can get over to the lake. Alec turns into what apears to be a street, and ends up turning into the Navel Hospital!!!! WTF??? We told him where we were going, why was he waiting for us to tell him to pull over? Especially when by then we were way past Lake Forest and in areas where there are more houses along the lake with private beaches and stuff.
So instead, we turned around and head home. Further adventures ensue with him getting pulled over for speeding. Getting away with a warning to drive slower. Discussion of stopping at IHOP for early morning food (as it was 4 am by that point), us getting home and Reuben sleeping for a little over an hour before he needed to leave for work.
I'm a little upset that we didn't get to see the shower, and it had stopped raining, and the sky was clear. However, while we were driving we were still in area that were too light. All I saw was several stars (The moon being as bright as it was prolly didn't help).
